Environmental Improvement of the Georgetown Interim Disposal Site Project
Public Awareness and Education Program for Citizens of Georgetown

The Government of Guyana (GOG) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have signed a technical cooperation loan agreement to provide support to the borrower in its efforts to improve the health and sanitary conditions of the residents of Georgetown and its environs through an improved and environmentally safer disposal of solid waste at the Mandela Avenue landfill site. Funds have been allocated from the loan to conduct a public awareness and education program for citizens of Georgetown in parallel with the closure of the Mandela site along the lines of the (and in accordance with) study done by Rafael M. Acevedo D - IDB Consultant, September 27, 1999, titled Solid Waste Pubic Awareness.
The purpose of this exercise is the preparation and implementation of a pilot program of public education and awareness for target groups about proper environmental practices, focusing on collection and disposal of refuse in and around the City of Georgetown.
The program should last no longer than 12 months in total, with commencement expected in September 2001.
Proposals submitted must state "Expression of Interest - Public Awareness and Education Program of LO-1052 SF/GY Project 2001" on the envelope, which will be addressed to the Project Director (first address below) and must be deposited in the tender box located at the second address below.
Consultants who are interested in the conduct of this public awareness and education program are required to submit their proposal by 0900 hours on 31 July 2001. Interested consultants are invited to witness the opening of the submissions immediately after the closing.
