of a Regulatory Framework for Integrated Groundwater Management and Pollution

The
Water and Sewerage Corporation received a loan from the Inter-American
Development Bank (IDB) to support its efforts in improving the water supply
systems on various islands of The Bahamas. This project also finances an
environmental study to develop a regulatory framework for an integrated
groundwater management strategy to control abstraction and pollution.
The
objectives of the study are as follows:

Develop
a regulatory framework for groundwater abstractions including the necessary;
(i) allocation, monitoring, and enforcing mechanisms; (ii) the institutional
setup; and (iii) an implementation strategy
·
Carry
out pre-feasibility studies of alternatives to deal with groundwater
contamination, including a review of previous groundwater pollution surveys and
the execution of necessary fieldwork
·
Conduct
water quality tests of private wells and WSC; the results of which will be used
in an information campaign to make customers aware of potential risks of using
groundwater from privately operated water supply systems
The
Corporation invites eligible consulting firms (from IDB’s member countries)
wishing to submit proposals for activities to be carried out under the above
mentioned program, to submit expressions of interest.
Interested
firms must submit information, in English, indicating that they are qualified
to provide the required services in a brief profile detailing: (a) their
background, (b) similar assignments, (c) experience in developing countries,
(d) availability of appropriate skills among staff, and (e) language
proficiency.
After
evaluation of the information presented, a shortlist of three to six firms will
be prepared. The shortlisted firms will be invited to submit technical and
financial proposals for the services.
Expressions
of interest must be faxed, e-mailed or delivered to the address below on or
before 16 September 2002 and should be clearly marked, “Expression of Interest
for Environmental Study”. Late applications will not be accepted.
