The Government of El Salvador has requested a loan of approximately US$ 20 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), through the Emergency Reconstruction Facility, to assist in the rehabilitation of physical infrastructure damage resulting from the earthquake of 13 January 2001. The activities to be financed under this facility may include: (a) clean up and removal of rubble; (b) control and stabilization of unstable slopes; (c) provision of temporary shelters; and (d) consulting services to conduct detailed evaluation and engineering designs.

Specific procurement notices for consulting services and contractors with respect to each component of the project will be published in El Diario de Hoy (www.elsalvador.com) and La Prensa Gráfica (www.laprensa.com.sv), newspapers published in El Salvador. There will be no restriction to international participation of firms from the IDB=s member countries in the bidding for the procurement of goods and services.

The project will be implemented over the next 12 months, and it is expected that notices be published for all components during the first and second quarters of year 2001. Invitations to bid for the provision of goods and services to be financed under this loan will be issued by the following agencies:
