Program to Support the Modernization of the Ministry of Health

General Procurement Notice

Loan No. 1092/OC-ES

The Government of El Salvador has received a loan of approximately US$ 20 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to assist in the modernization of the Ministry of Health. This loan includes a category to finance the rehabilitation of basic care physical infrastructure damaged by the earthquake of 13 January 2001.

The activities to be financed under the emergency category of investment may include: (i) clean up and removal of rubble; (ii) building materials; (iii) repair and rehabilitation of primary health care units; and (iv) basic administrative and clinical equipment for primary health care units.

Specific procurement notices for the procurement of consulting services and contractors with respect to each component of the project will not be published in UN Development Business, but will be published in El Diario de Hoy (www.elsalvador.com) and La Prensa Gráfica (www.laprensa.com.sv) newspapers published in El Salvador. There will be no restriction to international participation of firms from the IDB=s member countries in the bidding for the procurement of goods and services.

The activities described in paragraph two will be implemented over the next 12 months, and it is expected that notices will be published for all components during the third and fourth quarters of the year 2001. Invitations to tender for the provision of goods and services to be financed under this loan will be issued by:
